At the British Legion’s Festival of Remembrance at the Albert Hall a new feature was the presence of six gardeners and caretakers from the War Graves Commission cemetries in France and Flanders. The hushed multitude watched an impressive tableau. The buglers of the Grenadier Guards sounded the “Last Post” and the audience sang “0 Valiant Hears”, while 1,104,890 poppy petals showered down. The Duke and Duchess of York were present.
