HE HAS 770 IN HIS RESIDENCE!
In the royal (residences of Kirif Gorge there are 770 clocks,, and pei haps the plainest-looking of them al stands on the King’s desk in his stud; at Buckingham Palace. The most curi ous clock in the collection is one mad m France in the reign, of Louis XV. ieing in the form of the head of : negress With one cyo showing tin hour, r.nd the ■ other tl e minute. At Windsor there is a small clock beautifully engraved With true lover’s knots, which was a wedding present from Henry Vlll .to Anne Boleyn. I is vdftied at £IO,OOO. Another clock ■it Windsor is a Buhl piece of the '/tine, of Louis XIV. and it is wcrtl £SOOO. Every deck in the royal resi dences is. carefully tended to keep accurate time, but at Sandringham, tin King’s estate in Norfolk, every clock is kept half an hour fast. This practice began in Kinp Edward’s time, not to help him keel bis engagements,.but to overcome tin shortness of the autumn days wher most ol 1 his shooting was done. This daylight saving scheme has been maintained at Sandringham.
