A most delightful concert took place in the Totara Hall before a. mige audience last Friday evening, when the Rev. G, A. Naylor,brought a. party of Hokitika artists in the interests of the Ross Presbyterian. Church. The enertainment opened with a dumb-bell display by six young ladies, who gave a, very creditable performance. Mr and Mrs Arnold Perry contributed several vocal solos and duets, also encores, their items being specially appreciated. Miss A. Duff is alwaj’s a pooular performer and her several items were also heartily received. Mrs Tempero, of Gieymcuth, sang sevei a 1 difficult solos very pleasingly, and was accorded a very hearty reception. Mr Bulpin provided the humorous items, having to respond to endbres. Miss H, Perry gave several recitations, a humorous one, causing much merriment. Misses G. Lynn, McWhirter, J. Parkill, H. Ridfand, L. Staines, W. Stevenson and F. Wells again appeared in a. ballet, this being also an excellent performance. ; The concbrt concluded with a sketch ‘‘The Castaway” in which Mrs J. Menzies appeared as Mrs Boxer, Mr Menzies as Mr Boxer, Miss A. Duff as AH’s Gimpscn (Mrs Boxer’s mother) and .Mr A. C. Darby, as the boarder, each of the parts were well acted, the comedy proving a. very successful, item; Miss Gieze was the accompanist for the evening, and, as usual, carried out her part in a very efficient manner. The concert altogether urns a big success being the best we have had foi some considerable time, every item being appreciated and encores demanded in every case.. • , ■ , , '
At the conclusion of the entertain! ment Mr McGlymont, cm behalf tof the church,'thanked the performers for their, kindness in coming along and assisting them, and eongrarticled Mr Naylor on producing such an array o high class' artists. Before leaving 'fo'i home the visitors were entertained by the local Judies committee.
