OBITUARY
The death has ! occurred af lUehnioiiu, Nelson, oi Airs Emma iia\ cock, agid S 3 years. She was the mother of Ails I*. J.. U’Regan, of Wellington, and grandmother of Air P. O’Regan, of J Landing.
The death took piace at Otaki on Tuesday of Airs Ed-.vard Alurphy, who with her husband, at one time cond cted the hostelry ’« 1 A a ura, now j.nown . s F.ul’s Jcdotcl, rnd for a time resident in Keeft .n at t-. e G'lobe Hotel. The deceased lady, who was an aunt of Airs H. Geboie ,cf Reefton. leaves two daughters, Alls Smytlie, of Otaki, and another resident in Wellington.
The death occurred at Ivumai’a, yesterday, of Air Nicholas Smith, aged 62 years. He was a native of Sratford, and had Jived for a number of years in the Kumar a district. He was in Palmerston North lor seventeen years in the employ of the Pailway Department. Only twelve months ago he retired and returned to Kunmra to reside. He had been in ill-health ever since. He is survived by his wife .and two sisters, Airs AlcGlone, Kimbolton, and Airs Gambettia, Sydney.
The death of a very old gnd esteemed Greymouth resident, Air Richard Rothwell, Thompson Street, occurred this morning after a biief illness, at the age of 77 years, A native of Lancashire, ho came in L7s ’teens to the West Coast, where lie had since rosid* id for the most of his time. He was on the early gold rush at the Waimea, and later when' the Kama "a rush broke out he was one of the first- on that field, where he was a mate of the late' Nathaniel Scddon, a brother of the late Right Hon R. J- Seddon, of whom the late Air Rotlnveil was a cousin. In later years deceased was a messenger at the House of Representatives, and was also engaged by the Land and Survey Department as overseer for works at Alilford Sound. He was subsequenty overseer lor the Public Works Department in Alarlborough Canterbury and Hawke’s Bay. After retiring he returned to Greymouth. He leaves a widow and family of three daughters, Alesdam's Swift (Te Kuiti), Watson and Afurtagh (Greymouth). and four sons, Thomas and Richard (Christchurch), and Warwick and Nathan (Greymouth).
