The Electoral Bill extending the life of Parliament to four years and postponing the licensing poll to coincide with each General Election will be brought before the 'House of Representatives th's week, according t-o an announcement made toy the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) on Friday.

The grocery premises of Messrs Ha-g----land Bros., /in High -Street, Greymouth, were entered on Friday evening between 8 and 8.15 o’clock, and the sum of £2 10s was taken from the till. Some cigarette,s and tobacco are also missing, but the total quantity has not been -ascertained. The theft was a daring one, as on-£ of the partners lives in rooms at the back of the shop. The thief entered by way of a -side door, which leads to the residential portion of the building, as well ato the back door of the shop itself. The revival of the legitimate stage is one of the features of recent times. Repertory and operatic societies are, now flourishing in many places where a few months ago the talkies held supreme swny. Evidence of this Ls shown by the success of recent amateur performances. A further adventure in this field is to be essayed tomorrow. night when “The Patchwork Quilt” —that charming fantasy by R. L. Field—and “The Castaway”’ by the well-known author W. W. Jacobs in collaboration with H. C. Sargent, are being performed by a local caste. Variety to the entertainment is being provided by a ballet and gymnastic display (kindly arranged by Miss D. M(Whiner) a song by Mr Cecil Wright and three snort sketches each with an amusing climax and acted by Miss Anne P. Duff, W. E. Brown a nd Dr Childs. Mr lies Williams and’ His Happiness Eojs have volunteered their services to provide orchestral items. Altogether a pie:;s' nt evening is promised. The proceeds ara in aid of the local branch of the Plunket Socitv. The pe’forman c commences at 8.15 p.m. and picture prices are being charged.
