The Grey “Argus” says much dissatisfaction lias been expressed at the reeomendation of the National Economy Commission that the Stamps and Transfers Office should be removed from Hokitika to Christchurch, and a protest meeting will be convened at Greymouth by the Mayor (Mr J. W. Greenslade) next week to discuss the question.

Shortly after six o’clock yesterday morning, the premises of Mr Isaac Patterson, a solicitor, of Broadway, Reefton, were damaged by firei The Fire Brigade had the fire quickly under control,, and saved' the front office from complete destruction. The blaze started at the rear of the premises, which were gutted. The front office was damaged extensively by smoke and water. The loss to Mr Patterson is very serious, but no estimate of the damage to books and documents is yet available.
