About a year has passed since the Free Churches accepted the invitation of the Archbishop of Canterbury to discuss .reunion, the invitation arising out of the Lambeth Conference cf 19;-0. The Encyclical Letter published at the conclusion of the Lambeth Conference referring to conferences with the Free Churches said: In addition to delegations front Episcopal Churclies, our committee had the privilege of receiving and conferring with distinguished representatives cf the now happily united Church of Scotland and of the' Evangelical . Free Churches of England. It Was with renewed hope of progress that the conference decided to invite, the'.e nonEpiscopal Churches to enter into full conference with us once more. Further, it .adopted l unanimously a resolution in favour of “efforts of Evangelism in co-operation with Christians of other Communions,” believing that white the leaders discuss the still unsolved problems of Church order, the rank and file may he brought-to closer mutual understanding through united public witness to those truths of our faith which we rejoice to know we hold in common. The chief difficulty disclosed by the former conferences did not concern the basic principles of the united Church, for, in outline at least, agreement was reached that the principles of the Lambeth Appeal should be accepted. The chief difficulty concerned the interim period which would elapse before all miniistei s are episcopally ordained! It is our earnest hope that without undue delay joint conferences with representatives of the non-Episcopal Communions may a era in be initiated to consider this difficulty and the means by which it might bo overcome.
