NATIONAL SPIRIT
IS NEEDED IN NEW ZEALAND. (Per Press Association — Copyright.) WELLINGTON, October 20. Further expressions of ‘appreciation of the public spirit of Lord Bledis’oc in his efforts to preserve th, e amenities of these islands, and of his gift to the nation of the site of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, were made to-day. The occasion was t)he conclusion cf the morning sitting of the New Zealand Institute of Town Planning. Mr G. A. Hart (Wellington City Engineer) said th e meeting should not close without lan expression of appreciation of the action of His Excellency in interesting himself in the question of the disfigurement of the countryside by big advertisement hoardings, wheh were to be iseen from one end of New Zealand to the other. His motion that it b t> a xoconunendalion to the Council of tlie fnst.tute to send a letter to Lord Blcdisloe, conveying appm:iuE.<ri of Ins action and of this splendid gift of the historic WaiTangi property wins carried.
Mr Grierson (Auckland President of the Institute) said the gift had reawakened a national spirit. H ( . suggested that many places of historic interest should he preserved.
