DEFALCATIONS
IN N.Z. OFFICE. TWO OFFICERS GAOLED. (United Press Association--By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, October 20. In connection ith the defalcations in the N.Z. High Commissioner’s office Toms and Hore, pleaded guilty and were sentenced to a year and nine months respectively in the second division. Toms’ defalcations were £IBSO sterling since 1926 and Horo’s £760 sterling. Alillions passed intact through Toms’ liartds. The salaries of each had been cut to £660 yearly and they tried to live on their former scale ■and got into difficulties. Both drew money allegedly as advances on salary, while simultaneously drawing the full amount of the latter. Toms made a full confession.
