ADDINGTON STOCK SALE. CHRISTCHURCH? October 20. At the Addington stock yards yesterday the fat cattle entry was a large •Me. again, ,iand conhainedr&hout 100 head 1 of North Islanders. The market wars, over the early stages, about the same as last week, with an easier tendency for cows and heifers. The largest yarding of spring lambs for the season was entered. Prices wore not greatly changed from those ruling last week. The average price per pound was from 6d to C.)d, The store sheep entry was smaller than usual. Dry sheep were in a little better demand, but the uncertainty in the lamb trade did not encourage purchasers of other sorts l ,
The entry of - fat cattle was about 418 head, and was drawn from Otago, Southland, the West Coast, and the North Island, From the last-named quarter enme about 100 cows and heifers, which showed up quite well in condition. The general quality was quite up to standard, but the edge was taken off competition by the over-supply. Values were about on a par with those ruling last week, although there was an easier tendency apparent in competition for cows.
Heavy prime bullocks sold to £ll Its 6d, prime £9 10s to £lO os, handyweights £8 7s 6d to £9 2s 6d, light from £6 ss, best heavy heifers to £8 17s Gd, prime £6 2.s 6d to £6 17s Gd, light from £4 2s 6d, heavy cows to £8 Is od, primer cows £5 15s to £6 ss, medium £4 10s to £5 2s Gd, light from £2 12s 6d.
Over six thousand fat sheep were yarded There was splendid quality in all clauses in abundance. The market opened firm at prices on a par with last week, but they receded as the sale progressed. Heavier weights suffered chiefly., , There were over 700 fat lambs, with fewer extra, heavy weights, land mostly medium weights of good quality. There was an easing tendency here also towards the concluding stages. Best heavy lambs sold to 17s 4d, prime 14s Gd to lGs, medium 12s Gd tn 14s, light from 10s Gd. There was ,a small offering of store sheep. . Tile market was irregular, but firmer at stages owing to the abundance of grass available.
Fewer fat pigs were offered. Bacon•cj's were easier. Porkers were irregular with an easing, tendency. Medium porkers sold at 2Gs to 325, heavier 33s to 38s Gd, choppers 30s to £4 13s Gd, bneoners 36s Gd to 54s 6d, heavier £3 to £3 Gd Gd, extra heavy to £3 11s Gd. Store Pigs were a shade easier. There was a large entry forward.
