VICTORY BALL
SHIELD WINNERS ENTERTAINED. A gay scene was presented in the Soldiers’ Hall last evening when a complimentary ball to the West Coast rugby team, winners of the Seddcn Shield, was conducted by the Westland Kugliy Sub-Union. t Tiiere was a large attendance, patrons being present from all districts, there being a large contingent from Grey mouth. The Hour wa-s in good condition, and a very enjoyable time was spent, spirited music being provided by Ces. Williams and His Happiness Hoys. Extras were contributed by Misses Jacobs and Mr A. H. Lawn. Prior to the supper interval, the president of the. Hub-Union (Mr J. C. Stafford), officially welcomed the members of the team, of which several Greymouth members were present, and congratulated them on their fine representative performance, stating that the past season would do much to further rugby on the Coast. He thereupon presented them with the Shield, the team being /accorded musical honours.
Replies were made by W. Deere (captain), J. King (vice-captain), A. Fcrng and F. Freitas. Mr Stafford then presented the trophies won during the season in the Sub-Union’s competitions as follows: Arthur Rose Cup (Excelsior, winner of the senior competition); Westland Licensed Victuallers Cup (Kiwi, winner of junior competition), and Graham Wise Cup (Kiwi juniors, winner of North and South divisors). The cups were received by M. Davidson and J. Walker on behalf of their respective clubs.
