AMUSEMENTS.
EVERYBODY’S PICTURES. TO-NIGHT AND THURSDAY. “ARE YOU LISTENING”? ,One of- the most pretentious casts ever seen,, in a motion picture will be at the Princess Theatre to-night when '♦the new Metro-Golcjwyn-Mayer production, “Are You Listening?” opens. William Haines has the. male lead, as Bill Grimes, unhappily married, and yet in a position that calls for him to make others happy. Madge Evans plays opposite Haines—which is certainly a good, omen for the entertain- „ ment value of this picture. Another prominent .member of the cast is Karen Morley> whose meteoric rise to screen fame is well known, and also Anita Page is cast in a role that gives scope for her talent. Wallace Ford, who played with Joan, Crawford in “Possessed,” assumes the r,ole of a. comedian, whilst ouite the reverse is the role of John Miljan, ,-who is cast as a scheming newspaper editor. Jean Hersholt’s role also is prominent; and still further Nejl Hamilton and Joan Marsh are to be .seen.
The stpty of '.‘Are Yon Lisfenina?” holds n:onv. surprises. Tts dramatic strength is saij to he excellent, whilst William Haines does pot miss with his dashes of whimsical humour, Bill Grimes works ,in a-.radio station .writing snappy, humoWs ' - advertising sketcheshut his unhappy married;life causes him to lose, interest in his wprk. and he is fired. Ifowever, his one bright, spot is his love,.fqr Laura.; a ..beautiful, young siqgqr. who- entertains oyer the air. In j>. despondent mood, when his wife creates a .scene.,- Bill strikes her, and she falls dead. He runs immediately to Laura and /together they rush away from the Law-. If, is only when the police seek the aid of the radio that the unhappy couple realise what a terrih'e plight they are in. Eventually, they are caught, and return to the city. How the action and thrills finally work out helps make “Are You Listening?” • a most enjoyable picture. A'• good supporting programme will also he shown.
