AUSTRALIAN LOAN

TWENTY MILLIONS STERLING. (Australian Press Association.) SYDNEY, October 10. The Sydney “Sunday Sun” gays that the Commonwealth Government is contemplating the raising of a loan of twenty millions next month, at 3£ p er cent., of which about half is to be used for funding of Treasury Bills, and the remainder for reproductive public works. STATEMENT DEPRECATED. (Received this day a 5 10.25 a.m.) SYDNEY, October 17. The “Herald” says, in Federal circles, statements that efforts will be made to float a loan of £20,000,000 to meet the requirements of the Commonwealth and States, are deprecated.

The opinion is held in Canberra that to attempt to raise a loan of such magnitude at the present state, would not help in the restoration of confidence of financial interests in the Government.

Mr B. S. B. Stevens (N.S.W. Premier) stated he had received no intimation that the Loan Council would consider the floating of a twenty million loan in Australia.
