BANK RETURNS
FIXED. DEPOSITS SHOW LARGE INCREASE (Per Press Association— Copyright.) WELLINGTON£ October 6. The bank returns for the quarter ended September 30th. reveal a new high level of fixed deposist, the in-, crease here • offsetting the decrease in free deposits. It has also brought about an excess of deposits over advances, which 'have decreased. The holdings of Government securities have more than doubled. The principal movements, compared with September, 1931,' are: Government deposits have decreased by £1,265,594; free deposits have .. decreased .by £1,220,509; fixed) deposits have increased by £1,158,458; advances have decreased by £832,530; discount hats; decreased by £125,811; note circulation has increased bv £335,283; coin and bullion have decreased by. £1,336,906. The following are the principal items at September 30, the fighres for the June quarter being given in parentheses : Deposits—Free £15,370,152 (£16,815,822); .fixed £35,339,014 (£35,« 400,900); Government deposits £l,-. 429,192 (£1,796,618); note cireuktion £5,919,825 (£6,021,366): coin and bullion £5,605,423 (£6,207,587); diecounts £583,742 (£666,361); advances £49,391,474 (£49,915,034).
