QUAKE AREAS
VISITS'OF INSPECTION. • MANY CRACKSi AND SLIPS. (Per Press Association — Copyright GISBORNE, October 6. Mir K. S. M.R., with .Mr C. J. McKenzie, assistant engineer-in-chief of the Public Works Department have visited Tinirot'o and Mangapoike areas during the .past two days, to ascertain the extent of the ’quake damage. Shakes of varying intensity occur day &nd! night in these areas. One shake last Thursday at Pararatu, brought down more slips and waß the most severe of the series. Many of the steep faces have been loosened, and its appears that much additional earth and rock will fall. Cracks and slips are numerous, shattering the countryside and have done much damage to boundary fences, and it is feared that losses of stock are considerable. Mr A. M. Ongtey of the Geological! Survey branch, visited the district this week, and displayed interest in Whakapunakae mountain, whence strange rumblings come during the earth disturbances.
