RAILWAY RETURNS

The figures for the latest four weekly, period which ended 1 on 17th September, reveal a further improvement of fapproxrttately £2OOO in the Railway Department’s net revenue compared with the corresponding four weeks of last iyear, making a total increase of £64,885 sin the net revenue for the first twenty j weeks off the current financial year. There was a revenue decrease of ! £47 ; ,297 (from £451,377 to £404,080) during the last four weeks, due partly to the prevailing slackness in trade and partly to. strike conditions at a number iof Sot|h Island,coal mines, through’oU’t the period. This was more than balance by a reduction of £49,258 in 'the' expenditure.
For the year to date while thje total revenue has decreased by £233,757, the total expenditure has been reduced; by. £298,642, leaving an improvement of £64;885 in the net revenue as stated.
