KILLED BY TRAIN
JACKSONS FATALITY. (Per Press Association — Copyright.) GREYMOUTH, October 6. While shunting at Jacksons last evening, about V .30 u’clock, the Grey-mouth-Otira goods train, which left Gieymouth at 4.45 p.m., ran over, and killed instantly, a midule-aged man, believed to be unemployed. The only means o 1 identification was an unemployment levy book found on the victim, carrying the name of John Wood, 195 Antigua Street, Christchurch. Frome inquiries made last' evening, it was ascertained that an unemployed, man of the name of Wood, had been living in Grcymouth for some time past, but had been recently evicted for the non-payment of the rent for his bach and it is surmised thati the deceased is the same man. . The driver of the goods train was Mr R. Carruthers and the guard was Mr E. McCarthy. It is not clear how, the victim of the accident got on the line, but he was killed by a wagon passing over him. The body was conveyed 'to Otira where an inquest will be held, probably to-morrow.
