CONSTABLE’S DEATH
TRAGIC AND INEXPLICABLE. (Per Press Association — Copjriyht.) DUNEDIN, October 4. Police constable John Francis Perci•val 'Simpson, single, 28, was found dead in the police barracks last night, shot through th e mouth. The Coroner’s verdict was that death was due to a bullet wound, self in-, flicted. The evidence showed that deceased was a capable, trustworthy and popular officer whose wonted cheer ino \s was observed even fate yesterday .after-, noon. In December, the deceased while arresting a man was struck on th e head with a bottle, but the mied'eal evidence scouted the idea of, ?a mental injury, and the Coroner commented on the suicide .as tragic, and inexplicable.. . - Dr ;eae&d was a native of England, and ha,!, no known relatives in New Zealand^
