DAIRYING DISPUTE

W AIM ATE ROAD RACE. WON BY PORTER. (Per Press Association — Copyright.) CHRISTCHURCH, October 1. Riding alone over the last seventy miles, “Dad” Porter won the Waimate ’to Christchurch road race easily to-day. His great ride ranks as one of the most heroic passages in the history of the race. He is a veteran competitor in the race and is fifty-two years of age. His riding time was 7hr 46min 15sec. He started with the limit men and with a handicap of 90 minutes. He left the field three miles north of Hinds. W. J. Lamberton (Christchurch) secured the fastest time off scratch. His riding time was 6hr 46min 58sec. H. Watson (Marshland), also off 'the scratch mark, gained second fastest time. A protest was lodged against Lamberton on the ground that he had been guilty of boring when coming in to the finish. Second place in the race was filled by L. Thomas (Aranui), 57min. A. J. Brown (Dunedin),, 52min, wa s third; G. Young (Temuka), 50min, fourth; and T. I Peace (Methven), SOmin, fifth.
