SURF TRAGEDY
two lives Lost ON NEW SOUTH WALES BEACH. (Australian Press Association.) SYDNEY, October 2. ' Tlig first surfing tragedy of the season occurred yesterday at Scarborough on the South Coast. The victims were Jack Stanton, aged 22, and ' James Tomlinson, aged sixteen, of Wentworthville. Two other,s Rita Tomlinson and Geoffrey Harper, who participated In rescu e efforts, nearly lost their fives, and were themselves >, taken from the water in a semi-conscious condition. They are now recovering. All were members of a church picnic party, who were enjoying a day at the seasideThe swimmers were carried seaward by the undertow. The first who got into difficulties wa,s a small boy, thus resulting m Stanton and Tomlinson losing their lives in an attempt to reach [him.
