CORRESPONDENCE

ANSWER TO INTERESTED. ' (To the Editor.) Sir,—Kindly allow me to inform ‘“lnterested” that boat fishing is definitely prohibited in Mahinapua Creek, also that the Minister of Marine, Hon. Cobbe, has issued instructions 'that appropriate action shall be taken against tihese offenders. I voice the opinion of ‘“lnterested” concerning the despicable actions of these men, and point out to the general public that their attentions have mostly been confined t'o annoying the women who fish registered trenches in the creek. It is the practice of these culprits who are mostly able bodied single men owning registered trenches in the creek to leave trenches and take their nets in their boats and fish in front of the women’s trenches. Not only have they fished in front of the trenches but they have rowed up and down the creek with the idea of sending the fish up the centre of the stream so as they could place their boats behind the trenches and catch the fish further up the creek.

No doubt a ducking would have had a good effect on these men but as “Interested” points out it is not our duty to take the law into, our own hands. It is to be hoped that after the indignities suffered by our local inspector, Sefgt. King, that he will rigidly enforce the new regulations, which were gazetted on the 26th September and put an end to such despicable practices. I am sure that our local Inspector has the support of every*right minded citizen in this matter. Thanking you for your valuable space. I am etc. RATEPAYER.
