GREEK SHOCK
HUNDREDS OF LIVES LOST. BRITISH WARSHIPS. GIVE AID. , RUGBY, September 23. British warships are hastening, to the aid of refugees in the Mb. Athos district, of Greece, where a tragic situation exists as the result of a greatearthquake.
According to reports from Athens, hundreds of lives have been lost and thousands have been rendered homeless. To-day, the Commander-in-Chief of the Mediterranean Fleet, Sir Earl Chatfield, proceeded to the devastated area, with all the available ships. The flagship, "Queen Elizabeth, r ’ with three other battleships, the Revenge, Resolution and Royal Oak and' the Fourth Destroyer Flotilla were to-day at Mudi*oS, which is about 70 miles from the stricken district. ANOTHER 'QUAKE, OF VIOLENT NATURE, AN ENORMOUS FISSURE. (Received this day at 11.15 a.m.) ATHENS, September 29. Another violent earthquake completed the ruin of houses in Chalcidice region. The victims included some of the inhabitants sheltering in houses which the previous earthquake had partially ruined. One fissure was created four miles long and two yards wide. The sea encroached on the land in many places.
