MORE ’QUAKES
A HEAVY SHOCK SOME DAMAGE DONE. (Per Press Association — Copyright.) WAIROA, September 29. Wairoa suffered its heaviest earthquake since September 16th just before eight o’clock this morning. The buildings shook alarmingly, causing the occupants to rush outdoors. The shocks increased in intensity, a|id then they gradually diminished. The shocks lasted for a minute, and caused considerable nervousness among the community. No extensive damage is reported, but the electric power lines in the country districts were damaged considerably. ,It is reported that the quake was very heavy at Tukemokilii, a number of chimneys crashing. The shocks also chused internal damage. No heavy shocks have been reported since. SHOCK LASTS A MINUTE. WATER SUPPLY CUT OFF. GISBORNE, September 29. The heaviest earthquake since September 16th, was experienced in Gisborne at 7.45 o’clock this morning. The shock lasted for about one minute. It was of a swaying type. No new structural damage of any extent is reported, but the cracks in many buildings were widened. The Borough water supply was interrupted, the pipe-line from the headworks being broken. The water supply was eut off for about six hours.
