BRITISH POLICY CONDEMNED. GRIEVANCE OF R.ESIGNEES. (.United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received this day at 15 p.m.i September 29. -Sir ®. Samuel and his Liberal supporters after their resignation from the Cabinet, issued t'k-e following statement : “We regard - the Ottawa agreements, generally, as a danger to the Empire’s best interests, and » derogation from tVe powers of Parliament, a barrier to the removal of restrictions ,;m world (trade, and the probable caus e of increased unemployment and social unrest. “It is plain with differences so fundamental upon matters of such high import, and it is impossible for us "to remain members of the Government.” Th e above is an extract from a two fbjousaind word (statement, and summarises the resigneo’s position. There follows a lengthy' condemnation of the Government’s entire tariff -policy m which the signatories -declare that the Government, instead of asserting every pos ib'e effort to fre e the world of the network of tariffs, quotas, and commercial restrictions, built up an immense, intricate, and lasting system of similar restrictions, resulting in the loss of one fourth of Britain’s yaluabb' re-export trade, a contribution to the lftyins: up of thousands' of -tons ,of British -shipping, also causing the unemployed tfl increase by three hundred thousand in the last five months,, involving a charge of seventy millions on the Exchequer and being the chief cause of financial difficulties.
