FORMATION OF FEDERATION. / f Per Press Association — Copyright. WELLINGTON, September 28. Delegates representing the interests of importers are assembled in conference here from Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin to considei tliet desirability of forming an Importers’ Federation. The proceedings are in committee.
The chairman, Mr E. Salmond, president of the Wellington Importers’ Association, in his opening address, referred to the number of reasons why they should federate, these including the question of tariffs, exchange, British preference, and New Zealand industries.
Concluding, he quoted Mr Forbes as having said, when told recently of the formation of tlie Wellington Association, that a -resolution from the Provincial Association rarely carried much weight with any Government and Stressing the necessity for a New Zealand Federation - if it was desired to make their weight felt. :
