SUMMER TIME
SIR T. SIDEY IS UNDECIDED. RE URGING FOR EXTENSION. (Per Press Association Copyright.) WELLINGTON, September 27.' Sir Thomas Sidey, M.L.C., has not yet decided whether lie will make representations to the" Prime Minister re increasing the duration of the daylight. saving period. Discussing tho position, he said that during the recess, he sent a q,u.!stionaire to o. members of Parliament —all the Eit-o-pean members of the House with the exception of Ministers. Fifty replies had been received. An analysis of the answers showed that one-third of the members were opposed to any change at all. There seemed to be a majority opposed to increasing daylight saving to one hour daily. There was, he thought, a majority in favour of bringing in daylight saving a month earlier than now. ■( Some members suggested standard time should be advanced by half an hour all the year round. This would have’ serious results in the far south. It would mean that in Invercargill the sun would not rise until 23 minutes to nine in midwinter.
