NO PROBATIONERS ENGAGED NEXT YEAR.
DEPARTMENTAL DECISIONS,
AUCKLAND, September 26
An indication of the reduction in the number of teachers to be trained, as a consequent© of the Government’s economy measures land overcrowding in the profession, was provided in a memorandum from the Education Department. considered at a meeting of the Auckland Education Board. Formal adyice was given of the following decisions of the Minister 1 of Education, the Hon. R. Masters, in connection with probationer teachers and students 'at the training colleges:
(a) No probationers will be appointr cd in 1933.
(b) With the exception of the four or five student-teachers from technical schools no A division students will be admitted to the training colleges in 1933.
(c) All qualified C division students, or graduates, will lie admitted to the training colleges. (d) Not more than 25 of the present second-year students will be granted third-year studentships in order that they may .specialise in. teaching. It was stated further that intending B division, or paying, students would be able to lodge application's for admission with Mr T. B. Strong, Director of Education, on or before November 15, on the understanding, however, that the Minister might decide that no such, students would be admitted to the training colleges next year. The notification was received without comment, the hoard deciding to act in accordance with the decisions.
