The Director of "Education (Mr T... B. Strong) . Stated 'that isome uncertainty appeared to exist with regard to the changes made in the University bursary system by the National Bur-ary Regulations issued 011 August 18. He stated that the -main, changes were as follows:—

Candidates ;wh*o <secur e a pj ac C on the credit list at the University entrance scholarship examination will, as heretofore, be awarded bursaries. Toe alternative qualification formerly allowed, namely, the holding of a higher 'leaving certificate -from a secondary school will no longer be sufficient to secure,- av-foursaryv -Afl.'i candidates aie now required to qualify at the UmvSrsity eaiti*anc e , scholarship exam-na-tion a free choice of subjects being allowed: to candidates who are sitting for bursary qualification alone. Those who enter for scholarship qualification enter automatically 01 the University bursaries also. Students Who qualified for bursaries under the old system will not now be able to claim the bursary, but w : u require to: qualify at th e University entrance scholarship examination as indicated above.

■Candidates who secure the uecessary. qualification at the examination will not automatically receive bursaries, but should apply for the?© to the Director of Education by February 1.
