COTTON STRIKE
CONFERENCE AGREEMENT. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 23. The cotton dispute is now regarded as virtually ended, although the question of the reinstatement of those employees who had left work before the strike was called is still outstanding. An agreement has been reached on the major issues in negotiations which have been proceeding-;at Manchester, between representatives'i of the employers and employees, dvith the assistance of the Ministry of Labour official, Mr Leggett. ■
The wages agreement: has been approved and confirmed at a joint conference of both sides. It involved a reduction of; about per cent, off the earnings* of the general •< body of the workers. -u ■ • •
In order to prevent pany disorganisation from individual Action, the employers have issued a circular -requesting that the mills shall not .reopen until they receive' instructions to do so. ■ 1 ’■
AUSTRALIAN STRIKE SETTLED.
SDYNEY, September 25. The cotton strike has been settled, and the mills will re-open on Wednesday. The .wages are reduced by 1/8) in the £ compared with the employers proposed 2/-. The employers agree to urge the re-employment of displaced operatives at the earliest possible time. More looms to the weaver systeni will not be extended pending joint consideration.
