Many theories for the' amazing mail have been advanced. One is that many years ago someone developed an imaginary grudge against a doctor, a nurse, or an official at. the hospital, and that the grudge so played on his or her mind that lunacy lias developed. Another theory is that the sender is a perpetual globe-trotter who, on the anniversary of some incident, imaginary or real, posts the envelopes from whatever part) of the globe he happens to be visiting. Another . supposition is, that the sender lives in New Zealand and persuades unsuspecting travellers to post the letters from various parts of the world. In many instances the writing lias obviously' .been that of a child One letter received had been addressed by an illiterate person and read “Miss Lul Sawkins.” While there is t never anything offensive In the envelopes, some of the hospital authorities think that the police should endeavour td arrange for the postal authorities at Wellington to assist in tracing the mysterious correspondent.
