FORTY HOUR WEEK
GENEVA SUPPORTS PROPOSAL. BUT x BRITAIN OPPOSES IT. (United Press Association--By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) GENEVA, September 22. The governing body of the International Labour Office decided by 16 to 7 votes, to adopt th e Italian Government’s proposal to place on the agenda for the next session of the conference, the question of a universal forty-hour •week, with, the object of absorbing the unemployed. : it was also resolved to hold a preparatory conference at Geneva m January, to 'consider the technical problems involved, and to communicate the conclusions ti> the governing body, which will forward them to the World Economic Conference. The British Government and the qmploytrs’ representatives voted with the minority, the former opposing the suggested procedure, and the latter contending there was no' evidence that a reduction in hours would diminish unemployment.
