GANDHI’S OBJECT

Gandhi, interviewed at 'Yeravada Gaol by the Hindu leaders, expressed opposition to separate electorates for the depressed classes, but said that if a conference of the Hindus and “the depressed leaders favoured the reservation of seatl. in joint electorates, ho was ready to accept, and to consider stopping his fast. Doctor Ambedkar, on behalf of tho depressed classes, consulted the community, and the leaders of the confer_ enc'e, last night, evolved a new scheme based on joint electorates with adequate safeguards for the protection of the depressed classes, and a deputation journeyed to Yeravada to seek Gandhi’s approval. Gandhi, in an interview, declared his aim was to secure the complete e - . c.dication of caste and untouchability. Be desired a permenent agreement to this effect. “This is what 1 would delight in dying for,” he said.
