The final stage in the restoration of tihej' Arapuni Hydro-Electric. -Works, following; the fracture, in the lining of the headrace, was reached this- evening when, the , refilling of/the headrace was completed and water again poured over .the. spillway, and.. faßs., . The repair work has, stood up very satisfactors y to the'., pressure; of -., wafer. , . . Owing to a heavy, fall of rain in the watershed of the upper reaches of the Waikato River last night, the headrace. filled, more rapidly, than was expected. A . fall of. 2ft. 9in. in*, the normal level of the Waikato River was noted to-day. It is not expected that it will fall further, but that the •river will begin, to rise again to-morrow morning now ,that the full flow is finding its. way back into the river bed below the power works. Plans are being prepared for the construction of an inland coffer dam by means of which it is intended to examine tlie floor of the. headrace at Arapuni. in case there ' are any other fractures.
