THE HOKITIKA CLUB. FINAL OF CHAMPIONSHIPS. ’ In the final of the Hokitika Golf Club senior championship played on Saturday afternoon under ideal conditions, Adamson defeated Chesney after a most exciting game, by one up on the last green. The final was played over 27 holes, two rounds of thirteenholes each and an additional hole. As in previous years, the same contestants I fought out the final and the match Avas decided on the same green. A large gallery followed the players who were never separated by more than two holes’ difference. When Okes-. ney squared the match on the 25th hole after his opponent was short with his approach, the interest increased, land this was maintained as the next hole was halved, Chesney here making an excellent approach "to : the edge of the hole after just running through the bunker jyith. hjs second.. . - Chesney got an excellent drive 'avvaj from the . last tee,, but Adamson, who was not driving as consistently as us-, ual, was short. Both got good secoi ds away, Adamson being still a lithe, short of-his opponent. His third iron to the green was splendidly judged, and Chesney spoilt his chance at this stage by pulling his third over the hill: and taking him four to. get on tiie green within putting distance. Adamson sunk a- good putt to win the match one up. The evenness of the two players is indicated by the fact that the medal, rounds (assuming Chesney to have a five at the last) were identical. The following are the figures:— First 13 holes. —Adamson: 6,4, 4,4, i 3,5, 6,5, 3,3, 5. 4, 4,—56. Chesney: o, 4,5, 5,3, 5,4, 3,4, 4, 5,4, 4—55. I Second 13 holes—Adamson: 7,4, 4, 6,3, 5,4, 4,4, 3,4, 5,4, 4-61, 56, total 117. Chesney: 7,4, 3,5, 3,6, 6,4, 3,3, 5,4, 4, 5—62, 55, total 117. Mr W. Winchester was umpire. Chesney has had a remarkable hold on the club championship, having first won it back in 1910, and except for the. break during his war service, has he'd a continuous unbeaten record up to 1928, and in 1931 lie regained it. again. Adamson is a younger player, showing great promise who by assiduous practice has brought, himself to the fore. He has been playing-.very consistent golf this season. INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP. In this grade, W. Ei. Brown, who - played slightly steadier golf than TomI linson, ran out the winner by 4 up and *2, after sinking a 25-foot putt for 3 : on the 25th hole. The win of Brown’s | has proved a- surprise, as his earlier I golf has been erratic this year, and ihe only qualified last in the grade. In l the subsequent matches however, he I has shown much improved form, and is also driving a much better ball. Mr C. Neville was umpire. JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. Stark, who headed, the qualifying rounds,, heat Warren by 5 and 4 in the , i final- of the junior dtfffripionsliip. j I The play throughout;’the field was j fairly even, but the failure of Warren j when putting on the greens placed the issue beyond doubt. Warren, for a first year player, has done w- II to get far, and Stark gives every indication of ' being on a lower handicap before long. Mr J. C. Macfarlanb was umpire, j MONTHLY BOGEY MATCH. { The monthly bogey match, which was not contested by many, was won 'by Father Finerty by a very fine round of 1 up, and a medal score of 85. | LADIES’ GOLF. The L.G.U. September bogey match will he played next Wednesday, play-
