The (Prime Minister, Mr Forbes, who “ returned to Wellington to-day from Christchurch, was engaged m uabiuet untii nearly 1.30 o’clock in the afternoon. He stated subsequently that Cabinet had been engaged on business connected with the session. iH© referred to tjhg proposal that there should be a complete revision of, tariff. Mr Forbes said that tariff ■ revision would be "undertaken in the light of the Ottawa Conference decisions. If the whole of ithe tariffs were re-opened, he said, those likely to be affected would be given an opportunity of stating their case before j..e -revisions went through. Mr Forbes stated that it had, not yet Ueen decided who would take charge of the Customs Amendment Bill, but it was considered probable that Mr Coates, in view of the special knowledge lie had acquired at Ottawa, would be tasked .to pilot the measure through. Mr Forhe-s said that certain of the economies recommended by the Economy Committee will be given effect, to .when .the estimates atre '•nought forward. A large part of these could not b e brought into operation immediately, as the year was well advanced already, but provision would be made for some saving to be made immediately, and whatever could be achieved this far in the way of further reducing Government expenditure would be done.
