ARSON SUSPECTED
BRIDGE NEAR STOCKTON. (Per Press Associations Copyright.) AVJEtSTPORfT, September 18. ' What might -have prevented’ work for along time at Stockton mine was a lire discovered at 2.30 o’clock oh 1 Saturday afternoon, at the base of the trestles of the* bridge a-t Stockton, known as Mumm’s B adge. . These trestles are 160 feet deep, ’and Mr Jose, a resident, noticed them burning. An investigation showed there was a quantity of coal at the seat of the fire, and the trestles were alight. l The discovery was made just in time* as the fire was put out before any great damage had been done. The bridge 'connects w r ith the main haulage road of the mine.
It is evident that somebody tried to destroy the structure. •
