RE-ORGANISATION OF N.Z. FORCES UPON THE VOLUNTEER SYSTEM. (Per Press Association - Copyright .] WELLINGTON, September 16. Pleasure at the success achieved in the re-organisation of the Dominion military forces on a voluntary basis, was expressed by Mr Oobbe .to-day. Hesaid that, lhaving regard to a comparison between Great Britain and New Zealand, on their population only, and disregarding th 6 many advantages of service in the Territorial Army in Britain for the prospective recruit, which could not be reproduced here, it had appeared - that under the most favourable conditions New Zealand would raise at -most a forc e of about 4000.
Th e strength on May 31, however, was 6,938, and this figure was not the result of any burst of enthusiasm, but was the result qf a progressive increase in the number of recruits ever since the recruiting opened, -and this progressive increase, was being maintained. *
