GANDHI’S THREAT TO STARVE. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copy right.) ’ September 15. The Orthodox Hindus are profoundly moved by Ma'h.atama Gandhi’s starvat.ion threat. The GrthodOx Hindus, as expected, are making desperate efforts to save him from suicide, and Hand it Malaviya, a prominent Hindu leader, has appealed to his community and to the depressed classes to meet at Do’-hi during the week-end and endeavour to reach an agreement on the depressed classes’ electorates issue. Although Mandit Malaviya’s suggestion -is generally welcomed, the leaders of the principal sections of the depressed classes are not enthusiastic about having a conference, and they demand to know Gandhi’s -alternative proposals for their future representation.
