General Hertzog, speaking at the Nationalist Congress, reitorated that the 'depression had touched bottom, and .predicted thaty Africa would lead the world -in the 'return to prosperity. P 1 * em-phialsised ’that ‘there would be no -leaving the 'gold standard, or devaluation, "While th 6 Nationalists were •in power. ' Imports for 'eight months decreased Ib-y fifteen- millions, and exports by four millions compared with the same period ih 1931. The Government must raise ® loan in Loiidon to meet bank advances and other committments overseas. "■ The general revenue and railways indicate that each fell short of the estimate by two millions.
