VICTORIAN DEFICIT
£1,600,000 FOR FINANCIAL YEAR.

MELBOURNE, September 14. Sir Stanley Argyle, Premier and Treasurer, in the Victorian State Assembly, submitted the Budget; He stated that the financial year to Juno 30 last, closed with a deficit of £l,608,322. The deficit for the current financial year is estimated at £851,000. New taxation totalling £299,500 L proposed. The extension of the income tax to bring under the scope of the Act, 390,000 additional tax-payers, the exemption being £IOO instead of £2OO, is to yield £232,000. The additional betting tax is to return £30,000, and the increased stamp duties £37,500.
Taxation reductions include ten pen cent, drop in the unemployment relief tax.
