Professor 'Copland expre r sed the opinion that the agreements made at Ottawa win not lead to development of the Empire as an economic unit. He said that only one-third of Australia’s export trade went to Britain, and of that amount, half '-had to be sold at th e world’s parity prices. Onesjxth of th e Australian export trade would benefit from the preferential duties of ten per cent. The benefit to Australia ovould be -approximately one and a half miTion pounds. The advantage of a -national trade madk for New Zealand-made goods was mentioned by Mr Archbold, 11 . who drew attention to the growing popularity of locally produced articles. These, -h® said, were now being regarded by the public with distinct favour, and it wa® advisable to have a trade mark for local products.
