In the proceedings by the Alexander Mines Limited, for the purpose of obtaining the ruling of the Supreme Court, as to whether dividends should be paid according to the number of shares held by shareholders, or according toi the amounts paid upon the shares (£1 in the case of some shares and 13s»6ddn the case of others) Mr Justice Blair has made an order on the application of Mr F. A. Kitchingham, on behalf of the Company, that Mr William Hill shall represent the holders of party shares, and Mr D. A. McVicar the holders of fully paid shares. It is expected that the matter will be argued in Wellington within the next three weeks, Mr J. W. Hannan represents the partlypaid shareholders and Mr Stevenson (Wellington) the fully paid shareholders.

The State Miners’ yesterday held a ballot on the question of whether the terms proposed"! for a new agreement as between the Union and the State Mines Department should be accepted. The result of the voting was that 'there was almost' a two to one majority in favour of the acceptance of the agreement, the details pf the voting being as follows: —For Acceptance, 233; against, 118 ; informal, 8; majority 115.

Constable T. G-. Flewellen, who left this morning, on transfer' to Linwood, was the recipient of presentations froriij his fellow ■ officers at the Greymouth Police Station yesterday. Inspector Lopdell, in presenting Constable Flewellen, with a travelling bag, a rug and a set of pipes, referred to the eighteen years’ service which the Constable lmd faithfully carried out on the West Coast, the last ten of which he had served as assiptant-olerk at Greymouth.
