BRITISH HEROISM
BRAVE DEED IN P.AGING STORM.
SHIP WRECKED IN HEAVY SEAS.

HALIFAX, September 12
Storms are lashing the whole of the Atlantic coast. This week once again demonstrated the imperienable heroism of British sailors. The 'Second officer of the Englisht collier Watford, leaped into the raging sea and carried a line three hundred yard's through the blinding surf, and made a miraculous landing on the rocks. He then made fast two other lines shot ashore by rockets, the crew rigging up a breeches buoy by which thirtyseven were safely carried ashore The chief officer, however, was uv.ept- out of the buoy by mountainous seas, and was drawn to his death by the undertow. The ship waS a total wreck. The Swedish freighter Odensholm, is a total wreck on the Newfoundland coast. The North American champion fishing 'schooner, Gor trade Theband, was crippled by a gale, and tw o sailors were washed 'overboard and drowned. Six fishing craft foundered off New Brunswick, but there was no loss of life.
