.” WELLINGTON, September 9. • Commenting on the-.,new Order-m-Cauncil fixing maximum rates rif interest payable on deposits accepted by trading companies other than stock and. station agents, Mr Forbes said that' this was part of the Government’s programme under the National Expenditure Adjustment Act, for reducing fixed charges. The maximum interest rates now prescribed for general trading companies were the same as those previously gazetted for stock •arid station agents. Both were onahalf per cent, per annum higher than the maximum rates allowed on deposits with building and investment societies, and one per cent, more than the present bank rates for fixed deposits.
