ECONOMIC POLICY URGED

At the Trades Union congress at Newcastle, a resolution was unanimously carried calling upon 'the Government to adopt a policy leading to: The abolition of war debts; th© abo'lition of reparations,- 'the lowering of tariff barriers,' the providing for the planning on a large scale of developments such as housing and slum clearance at heme; the public control of banking and monopolistic industries; the taxation of land values.
While, the afternoon session of the congress was progressing, unemployed marchers appeared outside. A proposal to admit a deputation from them to address the congress was defeated, the secretary of ’the General Purposes Committe pointing out that the Congress represented unemployed as well aa the employed, and it had passed a resolution dealing with their grievances.
