THEFT CHARGE

The theft of £7O 19s 9d, proceeds from the sal© of art union tickets on behalf of Messrs Hammond and McArthur, was admitted in court by John Knox Glover. Evidence was given that Glover had a tobacconist’s business at Newtown, and for the past eighteen months had been selling art union, tickets oh behealf of the firm. Between June '7th and July 16th he was supplied 'with 808 tickets, 'and sold 601, on which he was to receive three pence per ticket. He later sent a cheque for £7O 19s 9d, but this was dishonoured. The police stated accused admitted converting the money to his own use to save his business, hoping to borrow from a friend to pay the firm. Accused, who was described as a clerk, was committed for sentence to the Supreme Court.
