HISTORIC VALUE

OF OLD SKETCHES OF DOMINION.

(Australian Press Association.)

SYDNEY, September 5,

In an article written for the “Sydnew Morning HeralS,” Mr Eric Rainsden, a New Zealand journalist, records the existence of several sketches bv Lieut. Thomas Woore, an officer of the warship. “Alligator,” which ' rescued Mrs r Guard. and her children from the Taranaki coast in the year 1834. As Lieut. Woore was an eye witness of'the incidents, Mr Ramsden regards the sketches, which have been in the possession of the Busby family for half a century, as being of historic value to New Zealand. Other sketches, none of which have been hitherto described, include scenes at the Bay of Islands, Whangaroa, and Kapiti Island.
