Described as an Australian miner of Scottish origin, who came to Egypt during sthe war, a prospector named Duffield was found buried in sand Witli a companion, an Englishman, named Hess, at a desert gold mine, thirty miles "north of Kosseir. Duffield is believed to have died naturally, while Hess had a revolver clasped in his bony hand., Under lease from the Egyptian Government the pair began to prospect the Attallah Desert in 1927. They were the 'only white men in five hundred miles of desolate country.
