MUCH IMPROVEMENT SHOWN
(British Official Wireless.)
RUGBY, August 23
The success of two schemes for moving slum dwellers to modern London flats is described in a report on the Grosvenor and Ebury Bridge housing schemes issued by the Westminster Cjty .Council. The Grosvenor scheme cost £431,600, of which the Duke of Westminster contributed £113,650, .and the land. There were 150 flats completed between April, 1931, and March, 1932.
On the Ebury Bridge estate, where the buildings coat £157,000, all of the 220 flats are now occupied. Both estates record a striking improvements in the condition of premises as compared with- the former dwellings. The figures show that the number of very clean premises increased from 278 to 330, while the number of indifferent premises fell from 95 to 41. A garden guild on the Ebury Bridge estate has been formed by the tenants to which all of the members contribute 2d per month. Th s has been remarkably successful.
