R.-Mullan headed the ladies’ qualifying- list, wit-li 86, the next being Mrs Slee 87, Miss Ryan and Mrs Wal-ker.-.each 89.; Mcsdaines Sharpe, Hannan (Grey)' and Cunningham (Grey) each 00 points. The foregoing eight were the ones .to qualify. • The"'morning medal match was won hy Clift 7 Thomas, and the afternoon medal match by H. Hubbard. ; The best score for the morning and afternoon was returned by A G, Sime with 73 and 69. This player, an exNew Zealand champion,; is suffering from a badly-scalded foot, and lmd to limp his-way around the links. Those 'to qualify’ .for the men’s 'championships were: .Sime 143, Park 160, Meldrum (Greymouth) 161, Sehaclick 161, Chesney (Hokitika) 163, Lockey 163, Lovell i. 65, Smith (Greymouth) 166.
The Reefton and Buller ladies, each with 369, tied for the Ladies’ Challenge Shield, The Buller Chib have won the Dalgleish Shield with 630, the- Westport Club .with 679 being next.
AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS,
MEN’S SEMI-FINAL RESULTS. (Australian Press Association.) ADELAIDE,' August 24. The weather, to-day was favourable for tlie iiiter-State Golf Tournament. Following' are the results of the men’s semi-finals:— - G. Naismith beat Richardson two and one. McMahon beat McLachlan three and two. Bettington ..beat Nc*.» tiefold three and tivo. Williams beat Winser seven and six. In the (women’s first round Miss Marne with 41—42. (including a birdie two at the fourteenth) finished one ahead of Miss Susie Tolhurst.
Williams’ play foreshadowed his attaining the amateur, title. \ He was perfect. He opposed the all-conquer-ing Winser with six successive fours, doing three under fours for twelve holes in the afternoon. The match was decided by the halving of the twelfth hole in threes.
■ Richardson was one up on Naismith in the morning, but he failed in putting subsequently. McMahon was again superlative. He was at the top of his form. He is the probable professional champion. ‘ Bettington indulged in tremendous drives,
